TC-100b
This is a special order DISCONTINUED product as of 10/1/2013. Critical components are no longer available. We created the TC-100 in 1994 but now the key parts that made it work are no longer available....even from tertiary sources. We regret the passing of the TC-100. Special orders of sufficient quantities may be considered if we can find parts.
TC-100b Time Code Generator - Reader - Overlay Both flavors of SMPTE Time Code: VITC Time Code, LTC Time Code EOL Notice: This is a special order product. Please inquire before ordering. (Due to parts obsolescence, only enough parts available for a few units as of 3/25/2013. The TC-100 has been in production since 1995 and BCD has no plans to redesign this unit.) |

Window Dub Inserter, Generator/Inserter, RS-232 communication with your computer, VITC Generator, LTC-VITC/VITC-LTC Translator With "On-Screen" Time-Code Display ...all in one!
The TC-100 reads and generates SMPTE Time Code, both VITC Time Code and LTC Time Code. It has an RS-232 interface and Video Superimpose Overlay.
Serial Communications
Single Character Commands for only TC-100a: Simple hookup and single-character ASCII commands make TC-100 easy to integrate into any program. "L" requests LTC frame number. "V" requests VITC frame number. "O" turns on overlay, and "o" turns it off. 'A' causes the TC-100 to output time code numbers continuously. Captioning programs can take advantage of communication rates up to 38,400 bps for fast time code polling..
4-Character Commands for TC-100a and TC-100b: The 4-character command set permits extended 4-character commands for selecting VITC read/write lines, as display size, position and background. A special "VINI" command tells you which lines already have VITC time code.
BCD's TC-100 can record data from an RS-232 source. For monitoring applications that require data to be synchronous with the video, the TC-100 is perfect for recording vehicle speed, heart rate, temperature, and other data.
The TC-100 stores your data in the vertical interval of the video using VITC User Bits or on an audio channel in the LTC Code. Eight user groups are provided, giving you eight hex digits (0-F) for your data. Upon retrieval, you can configure these 'nibbles' as 4 bytes or as one really big number! Data integrity is assurred by writing it four times in each video frame - 2 lines per field. Typical update frequency is 2 to 3 times per second. For more frequent data updates, see our SB-100.
Suggested List Price: $ 595.00
Please specify 9-pin or 25-pin connector for your computer's serial port.
Please specify NTSC or PAL for default operation.
(Single-character commands are deleted, but they are still available by requesting the 'Original' TC-100a. If you have a prior version and you need absolute software compatibility, please order 'TC-100a'. Same Price.)
International Sales: Because power plugs vary widely in countries outside North America we ship international orders with no power supply, and we deduct $10.00 USD. You will need a wall-tranformer that supplies 9VDC, tip-negative, 500mA, with a 2.1mm connector. We ship freight-collect using your DHL, FedEx, or UPS account number.
Payment: We accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover.
The DVD-1150 (DVD-1150b ) supports +RW discs.
What about +R and +RW?
DVD +R vs. -R discussion has become more of a religious issue than a technical one. Back in the year 2000, it find players for +R were less common than they are today, but even the oldest players accept and play +RW.
The BCD DVD-1150 Industrial DVD Recorder uses +RW. Frankly, +RW is our favorite. The "Plus" discs are preformatted by the machine (takes less than a minute) and this insures playablity on any other DVD player. And... +RW doesn't need finalizing!
Today, when we run tests at major retailers, our discs play on all of their DVD and Blu-Ray players.
"+RW" will playback immediately on a DVD-1150. No finalization required to play back on the same machine that made it
No Finalization with +RW
DVD+RW is unique in that it will play in consumer decks immediately, no finalization is required!

DVD-1150 FAQs
Please note: The DVD-1150/1150b has officially been DISCONTINUED. We may build some on Special Order for special military projects, but really, it's gone.
Please investigate the BCD HDi-250 and the new HDi-SDI recorders.
We rely on you to advise us, and encourage your comments and questions. Here are some of the more Frequently Asked Questions...
Here are the HDD-->DVD copy times for a 20-minute video. All files are the same time duration, but higher quality/faster speed have higher bitrates & larger files.

Unintended Features
We test our products in every way we can think of. Our clients, however, are often even more creative and have procedures we never thought of. Some of the items below are actual limitations of the machine. Please check back to this page from time to time to see any updates, changes, deletions, or additions.
Please see also the "Troubleshooting" section at the end of this article.
"-R" Recording
The DVD-1150 uses "+R" and "+RW" discs only.
This is not an issue with us, but it important to some of our clients. We prefer the +RW format to any other because it needs no finalizing. Just remove the disc and play it on another player.
"Cannot Copy" error appears on the TV monitor screen.
This error occurs when one attempts to copy a commercial "Hollywood" DVD from another machine. The DVD-1150 will not copy a copy-protected source. This error message can also happen when video input is from certain TV cameras. It appears that the camera inserts some sort of data into the video that the DVD system interprets as copy protection. The current remedy is to use a different input source.
Time Remaining Display is inaccurate in certain circumstances.
The Time Remaining display on the front panel, and the RS-232 TLFT (Time LeFT) command will become inaccurate after Pause-during-record. Upon unpausing, the Time Remaining will revert to the original value at the start of the recording session and count down from there. There is no fix for this right now. The elapsed time (front panel display and FRAM command) will indicate the correct elapsed time.
Recording fails if no video input.
The unit will not record if there is no video input.
Recording will fail if video is removed when unit is in Record-Pause and the machine is then UnPaused. Record, Pause, remove video, Unpause. This is one instance in which the MODE and STAT commands incorrectly indicate RCRD (Record) instead of NVID (no video). Inasmuch as correct status is a hallmark feature of the DVD-1150 series, we very much regret this and are working to find a remedy.
Certifications
The DVD-1150 and DVD-1150HDD are custom devices, CE Certified. They are hand-built to high industrial standards. The major components of Power Supply, DVD Drive and Hard Drive have one or more of the following certifications: FCC, CSA, CE, UL, VDE. Specifics on request.
As for vibration, one of our clients said we passed their test and was kind enough to send us this note: "The vibration testing we performed was based on Mil-STD-810F using a profile of a 500 mile transport to an area via a rubber tired vehicle. The vibration range we used was 12-500Hz for 40 minutes per axis (longitudinal, transverse, and vertical). "
Troubleshooting
These are genuine "issues" that should not happen. Ever. But sometimes they do. Please contact BCD for current status: 800-223-6734 (800-BCD-MPEG)
