Pushbutton Video Exhibits

Pushbutton Digital Video/Audio Playback
for Museums & Exhibits - Digital Signage
It's almost Solid State DVD!

Almost Solid State DVD! BCD offers Digital Video Players for Interactive Exhibits & Digital Signage Digital Video Players for Interactive Exhibits & Digital Signage
BCD pioneered interactive video for training in 1980.  Back then it was video tape and 12" Laserdiscs.  We controlled DVD machines as soon as there were DVD machines!

For many years DVD was the mainstay of push button museum and exhibit video presentation.  Coupled with BCD's VC-16b pushbutton controller, DVD and now Blu-Ray players have been "Pushbutton Interactive" in many exhibits.   Press button #3 to play video #3.

Disc Players Die !
BCD's interactive controllers don't fail.  Never has one failed in the field.  DVD players, however, usually die within 12-18 months, especially those in exhibits played 8 hrs per day, 7 days per week. Usually it's the spindle motor, the one that spins the disc.  Our clients had the choice of replacing inexpensive players on a regular basis or using a $1,000 industrial player. The long-term cost was a toss-up.

Solid State Digital Video Players Have No Moving Parts
Enough said.

Solid State Digital Video Players Play HD
The picture quality is amazing!  HD Digital Video Players from BCD playMPEG-2, MPEG-1, and MPEG-4 files.  Primary outputs are RGB(VGA) and HDMI. Analog Composite, S-Video and Component Y, Pb, Pr are available on even the least expensive players

  • 1920 x 1080
  • 1280 x 720
  • 740 x 480
  • 320 x 240

Scaling is automatic to fill the screen or can be set to letterbox 4:3 on a 16:9 screen.
Audio Out is 1/8" Mini Stereo.  Media Storage is SD card.

Pushbutton Video Interactivity
Sadly,we're selling against our own product.  We are somewhat hesitant to promote Digital Video Players because we make more money selling controllers.  The fact is that for most applications, a digital player is simply the right thing to do.  Our Digital Players have GPI inputs for up to 8 push buttons and we can supply programming to map button presses for up to 8 different video files.... plus an Attract Loop.

So the player shows a repeating attract loop of video, often short segments from the content videos.   Text is usually superimposed on the video saying something like "Press Button for Video."  (You have to say that or else th e museum visitor will stare at the Attract Loop then walk away without pressing any buttons!)

We can even emulate traditional DVD Menu selection with Up/Down/Enter.

Touch Screen Interactivity
Some Digital Video Players from BCD can be programmed to accept triggers from USB touch screens, typically from ELO.   We can divide the screen to create "touch zones" using a still image or motion video as the background.

Digital Signage
Oh wow!   Zones, zones zones!  Each area showing something different. Simultaneous video, text, images and RSS feeds from your web site. Automatic content updates over the Internet.   Check back here often or call us about flexible & affordable digital sign players. (Psssst.... it's the same digital video player box.)

Client Comments - Solid State Players

"GREAT - thanks- you came through !"
   -- Nutmeg Exhibits

Nutmeg Exhibits, Windsor CT, needed pushbutton control of a video exhibit with three video segments.   Nutmeg had already constructed the exhibit and the buttons were installed.  BCD's VC-16b DVD controller was the natural choice, but there has always been the problem of DVD players needing to be replaced after about a year.

For this project, BCD suggested a Solid State Video Player with pushbutton control. Project Manager Ian Clifford sent the museum's DVD to BCD for conversion. In the process, BCD created an Attract Loop made from segments of each of the three videos.  The words "Press Button for Video" appear from time to time in the Attract Loop.

In operation, the Attract Loop plays until someone presses one of the three buttons.  That video plays and then the Attract Loop resumes.

Simple, straightforward, long lasting, low maintenance.

Kind Customers

Thank you so much for your help over the phone yesterday. Both you and Ellen provided me with enough assistance that I could fix the issues we were having without having to have someone come in to help.
Great customer service.
Thanks again!
